The Hubi & Vinciane Foundation (SHV) (https://hubi-vinciane.be/en/) was established in 1982 in memory of Dr. Hubi (Hubert) Adriaens and his fiancée Vinciane Van Assche. Hubi was alumnus of the faculty of Medicine, KU Leuven and while finishing his specialisation as a surgeon, he was appointed as medical director at the bush hospital in the community of Papané, West African Benin. Vinciane, alumna KU Leuven (Mathematics), was teaching at the college in Tchaourou whenever she visited Hubi in Benin. They both died in an air crash while traveling back home in 1981. Their 'dream' for Benin was continued by their respective families, by creating SHV, a Public Utility Foundation.
SHV encourages regional development in the Parakou-Benin region and actively contributes to improving the living conditions of the inhabitants of this region. SHV's activities are strongly embedded in the local community, and its impact is recognised by national authorities. The programme focuses on combating.
malnutrition and strengthening knowledge and skills of 'healthy and balanced nutrition'. SHV opts for an integrated approach of projects in health, education, agriculture and entrepreneurship. SHV works with volunteers in Belgium and a local team of ~20 employees in Benin of which 13 social workers for the implementation of a malnutrition project, including family planning.
